HPH has been awarded a 30-year concession to build and operate six terminals at Laem Chabang which will have a total quay length of 3,250 metres with depth alongside of 16 metres. In 2003 Laem Chabang recorded 3.4m TEUs.
HPH has also grabbed another four berths in a joint venture with the commercial arm of Shanghai's port authority, Shanghai international Port group.
The 50/50 joint venture is for the first phase of Shanghai Waigaoqiao which will cover 1.6M sq metres with total berth length of 1.11 kms and a depth of 12.8 metres.
HPH is among a huge array of lines and terminal operators queueing up for a slice of the 52 berth mega terminal under construction in the Yangshan islands to the southeast of Shanghai.
In the same week HPH's parent company Hutchison Whampoa signed a letter of intent with Dalian Port Group in northeast China to build and operate a 300,000dwt iron ore terminal, the first dry bulk foray by the company.
