India is to set up a state-owned company capitalised at $557m specifically to invest in overseas port and terminal projects. The company will mirror PSA and DP World in scope and be known as Indian Ports’ Global.

It will be funded by revenue collected from federally managed ports in India and will also issue bonds.

Driving the project is a perceived need to boost market share handled globally by Indian shipping lines.
