Kalmar has launched its new Rail Mounted Gantry crane (RMG), an automation-ready product that can be adapted to customer-specific requirements

The new solution, which has a rail span of 20-55 metres, a lifting capacity of up to 65 tonnes and an outreach of up to 18 metres, can stack up to a height of 1 over 6.

Cranes under the new model can also be combined with Kalmar Horizontal Transportation or Mobile Equipment to deliver a complete end-to-end solution for intermodal and container terminals.

The new cranes, which are suitable for use on greenfield sites or on existing brownfield operations, are also fitted with electric drive units which have zero emissions at source.

Commenting on the new product, Timo Alho, vice president for Intelligent Crane Solutions at Kalmar, said: “Even if you choose a manually operated crane today, it can be retrofitted in the future to be remote controlled or automated.

“Now our customers can decide when it fits their plans to join in the automation journey.”
