Kalmar to supply tractors to Trac-Wheels
Cargotec company Kalmar has signed a deal with Malaysian equipment business Trac-Wheels to supply ten Kalmar TL2 terminal tractor units on lease to Trac-Wheels at its Miri Port and Tanjung Manis Port terminals in the east of the country.
The order, which was booked into Cargotec’s 2017 fourth quarter order intake, is anticipated to be delivered in the second quarter of this year.
The TL2 terminal tractor, which is specifically built for the Asia-Pacific region, was launched to the market in November.
It has a specially-designed hydraulics system; a bolted, rigid chassis; an easy-lift cabin; and service intervals.
According to Kalmar, the product’s smart programming, combined with its highly-efficient driveline, lowers overall fuel consumption by up to 15%.
Commenting on the order, Richard Song, Trac-Wheels’ managing director, said: “The environmental features of the Kalmar TL2 terminal tractor can further contribute to the sustainable goals of Miri Port, while Tanjung Manis Port strives to improve operational efficiency.
“The Kalmar TL2 terminal tractor offers more options and features to meet local specifications and promote overall cost-effectiveness.”
Teo Yew Boon, vice president of Kalmar South and Southeast Asia, said that the order gave the organisation robust confidence in developing regional offerings that are custom-made for local requirements.
“We see the equipment rental business becoming an emerging trend in Asia-Pacific,” he said.
