A heavy vehicle parking lot established last year to ease Picton street congestion caused by trucks involved in the Kaikoura earthquake relief effort has now been leased by Port Marlborough.
Port Marlborough property and business development manager Ryan Lock said an upgrade is also planned for the Waitohi Domain truck park facilities.
“For example, installing an access control/barrier arm, security cameras and possibly a toilet and shower facility — but our intention is to keep the park fully operational during this time,” he said.
Mr Lock said Port Marlborough intends to implement a rotational fee structure, similar to that of most modern-day car parking buildings, whereby users pay for their time of occupation.
“Effectively, customers will register for the parking facility and be provided with a means of access such as a swipe card or radio frequency identification tag. This technology will then be linked to a billing system which will invoice users.”
