Mitsui wins Myanmar crane order
Japan’s Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding is to supply eight new cranes to Thilawa in Yangon, in a contract awarded by the Myanmar Port Authority.
The order is for two ship to shore (STS) cranes and six rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes and is Mitsui’s first crane supply project in Myanmar. It is being done via an ODA (Overseas Development Agency) loan agreement between Myanmar and Japan.
The STS crane for this project will be equipped with a “Soft Landing System”, which detects the distance between the spreader and containers by sensor and reduces the lowering speed or stops lowering as the spreader approaches a container, Mitsui said in a statement.
“With this the impact on container/spreader at lowering operation will be less and reduce the damages to container/spreader,” the statement said.
The RTG crane will be a lithium-ion hybrid type, which can achieve 50% to 60% fuel savings compared with a conventional RTG, it added.
