PrimePort Timaru has been able to save the jobs of ten staff following it being added to the Capricorn schedule of Mediterranean Shipping Company.
Having recently lost other container line calls, the port had been expecting to effectively cut 29 jobs. While a restructure is still required, PrimePort chief executive Jeremy Boys says this number has now reduced to 19.
Meanwhile, the port’s 20,000-tonne waterfront grain storage facilities are being mothballed after Christmas due to their diminishing use.
