New Transas VTS unites Severn ports
A marine-control centre enabling ships to be monitored 24 hours a day as they enter or leave a South Wales port or harbour along the Severn Estuary has been commissioned. Associated British Ports (ABP), owner and operator of five ports in South Wales has invested £ 0.6m in developing the new VTS centre.
In keeping with its holistic approach, the manufacturer has applied its Generation 5 philosophy across its range covering the HMK mobiles, the HSK portals and the HPK pontoons.
By working with The Bristol Port Company, ABP has been able to develop Severn VTS so that both port authorities can provide seamless coverage of ships throughout the whole estuary. The new system, installed by Transas, covers over 500 square miles of water.
