The world’s largest free trade area has been created and is to be known as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The development comes as container imports entering the continent in the first seven months of 2023 were up by 6.7 per cent over the comparable period of 2022 and by 10.1 per cent against 2019 according to Maersk Broker. The West Coast of Africa is the driver of trade, with port activity increasing by 20.9 per cent versus 2022.
