Goole reaps rewards of solar installation

Announced in November, ABP’s 14-week project saw Custom Solar install 4,341 solar panels across four rooftops, creating enough electricity during peak generation times to run the Port of Goole solely from clean energy.

ABP Humber director, Simon Bird, said: “This is a real green milestone for the Port of Goole, as the first time in history, it has the capability of running exclusively from clean, solar electricity.

“This extensive project wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of all of those involved in delivering this during inclement weather, to make sure we are ready to make the most of key generating periods.

“This is an exciting time for ABP, as we continue to pave the way for a greener future.”

Community benefit

The installation will produce enough electricity (1.1 megawatts) to power around 154 residential homes per year. Any surplus energy supplies will be exported to the National Grid.

Custom Solar director, Gary Sucharewycz, said: “We are delighted to have delivered another successful project for ABP and our second across the Humber region.

“Across ABP’s ports, this takes the total to over 6 megawatts that we have delivered in the last 12 months alone, with further projects being developed.”

Recently, the Port of Immingham upped its solar production to over 4MW.
