LED lighting reduces energy consumption

Phoenix Lighting’s EcoMod floodlights were designed to maintain illumination standards for cranes raised 10m high to handle the world’s largest container vessels at West Coast Terminal in the Port of Los Angeles.

The floodlighting system provides a 60% energy savings compared to the previous traditional lighting system at the terminal, said Phoenix.

Phoenix worked closely with ZPMC Services North America and the terminal engineers to deliver 52 fixtures per crane with customised optics and brackets.

The mounting locations were at heights of 60, 54 and 16m, and the design was completed using two different optical arrangements.

Three of the ten cranes are currently completed and are now some of the tallest in the US.

In July, imports shot up by 15% at the port of Los Angeles amidst continued expansion.
