Offshore wind win

Parkwind has selected Mukran Port to provide maintenance and service for its 257MW offshore wind farm, located in the Baltic Sea, approximately 19km northeast of the island Rügen, within the 12-nautical mile zone of the Federal State Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany.

Eric Antoons, co-CEO of Parkwind, said: “The understanding of our industry, the port’s experience with offshore projects and the proximity to Arcadis Ost 1 make the Sassnitz-Mukran port the ideal location for the operations center of our first offshore wind farm in Germany.”

EMS Maritime Offshore (EMO), Vestas and Parkwind signed lease agreements for an operations and maintenance (O&M) building in the port. Up to 40 experts will monitor, maintain and control the operation of the wind farm from the site.

Development timeline

Construction of Arcadis Ost 1 is planned to start at the beginning of 2022. The wind farm is scheduled to go into full operation in 2023.

The wind farm will cover an area of 29km2. 27 MHI Vestas V174-9.5MW turbines will be supplied to the project next year.

Parkwind developed a floating installation method in joint cooperation with Heerema Marine Contractors and MHI Vestas. Heerema will be performing the turbine installation with this method.

In September 2019, Parkwind awarded the contract for the design of the turbines and OSS foundations for the wind farm to the Hamburg branch office of the Danish consulting group COWI.

In April 2020, Parkwind and Bladt signed an agreement for the design, fabrication, and installation of the offshore substation for the wind farm.

In July 2020, Parkwind and Steelwind signed a contract for the fabrication of the monopile (MP) foundations for the wind farm.

In February 2021, Parkwind awarded DEME Offshore an Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI) contract for the wind farm foundations.

DEME Offshore, with its installation vessel Orion, will install the XXL monopiles fabricated by Steelwind.

JDR will be delivering the inter-array cables and Global Marine performing the installation of these cables.
