OOI selects ESC systems
Two US east coast terminals of the Orient Overseas International (OOI) group, which has the same parent company as Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), have placed orders for Embarcadero Systems Corporation’ s (ESC) smartGATE suite and Intelligent Camera system to manage their gate operations.
ESC’s gate technologies will be deployed for the inbound and outbound security gates at Global Terminal and Container Services, Inc. in Jersey City and at New York Container Terminal (NYCT), formerly Howland Hook Container Terminal, on Staten Island.
The addition of the smartGATE technologies represents part of a major terminal systems upgrade and will be deployed at both terminals in order to convert the gates from a manual operation to an integrated and technologically advanced operation.
Gobal Terminal’s and NYCT’s gates will incorporate card readers capable of reading the Port’s SeaLINK identification cards, close circuit television (CCTV) camera technology, and advanced audio technologies with ESC’s state-of-the-art pedestal technology.
SmartGATE will enable the terminals to relocate their gate clerks from separate gate booths into a centralised gate control centre and allow truck drivers to remain in their cabs as their vehicles are processed.
