Bolstering Ukraine’s recovery through port development
Ports of Stockholm has received crucial funding from the Swedish Institute under the Ukraine Cooperation Programme to help strengthen Ukraine’s port infrastructure.
This initiative aims to support economic recovery and align Ukrainian ports with EU standards, enhancing trade capacity and regional connectivity.
“We are proud to start this important cooperation and to contribute with our expertise and experience in port management, sustainability and logistics,” said Jens Holm, Chair of the Board of Ports of Stockholm.
”By supporting Ukraine’s ports in their adaptation to EU standards, we hope to create a sustainable basis for increased regional cooperation and future trade.”
Collaborative effort
The collaborative project, called IntegraPorts, will foster knowledge-sharing and port management training to increase Ukrainian ports’ efficiency and adaptability.
Partnering with Ukraine-based law firm Interlegal and the Baltic Ports Organization (BPO), Ports of Stockholm will conduct a needs analysis, train Ukrainian port authorities on EU funding applications and arrange study visits to Baltic Sea ports.
The initiative, backed by a €17,300 grant, runs from November 2024 to October 2025, aiming to integrate Ukraine into the EU Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). This integration is pivotal as Ukraine seeks closer ties with the EU amid post-war recovery efforts.
The project aligns with the City of Stockholm’s broader cooperation efforts, including support from the City Theatre and the City Management Office, to enhance Ukraine’s economic resilience and prepare it for future EU integration.
Ukraine applied for EU membership in February 2022 and was granted EU candidate status in June 2022.
