Puerto Bolívar on track to be Ecuador’s main port
Yilport is on track to delivering its vision to operate the main port in Ecuador with the arrival of five new cranes.
The four ship-to-shore and one rubber-tyred gantry cranes are on route from Mitsui E&S – Paceco in Japan and are due to arrive in Puerto Bolívar on 29 November.
This latest order will bolster the port’s existing six STS cranes, 18 RTGs and four mobile harbour cranes, helping it shift one million teus of varied cargo.
In addition to the new equipment, with the new construction of Phase II, the terminal will have a length of 1,410 metres of berth, with 780 metres dedicated to container vessels, operational by February 2024.
Supporting the country’s export trade of banana and shrimp, the new yards will also have 3,510 reefer plugs to help the gateway boxes together with transshipment boxes.
Ongoing dredging works will bring the draft to 16 metres on low tide, allowing the port to handle ULCV size with the capacity of 20,000 teus. The expected cargo traffic in the terminal will triple the existing volume in three years.
