Peru''s National Ports Authority has revealed that $2bn of investment will be made in the next few years by the private sector in port projects.
Around a dozen projects have been announced, several of which could begin construction this year. The most advanced project is that promoted by CVRD at Bayóvar, which will be used to export phosphates. It is slated to open in early 2011 at a cost of $80m. Others due to commence soon include Salaverry ($80m), General San Martin de Pisco ($50m) and San Juan de Marcona ($150m).
