The Port of London Authority in the UK has completed the latest development project at its hub Denton Wharf taking total investment there to a tune of £10m, but there''s expansion to come.
The recent £700,000 works to Denton Wharf include strengthening the quay wall and expanding the vessel storage and work areas. This brings Denton up to full capacity in time for the Olympics and the Queen’s Jubilee next year which of course will mean much more activity in the area.
PLA is also working towards further expansion works and is currently in talks with the local council to develop plans for a ‘marine centre of excellence’.
Martin Garside, PLA said to Port Strategy: “This current new work is part of a wider plan for a marine centre of excellence. We’ve been investing in the area for many years but this will bring more possibilities for expansion – we are consulting with the local authority with regards to adjacent land to Denton Wharf."
Denton Wharf is the main base for PLA’s marine services operation. Its expertise in salvage, diving, mooring and navigational maintenance services is utilised for 95 miles along the Thames from Terrington Lock out to the estuary.
