GMV boosts port safety systems

The contract, valued at over €2 million, was awarded through a public tender by the Port Authority of Aveiro. This strategic investment aims to significantly enhance maritime traffic monitoring and improve communication with rescue operations.

A VTS system, akin to air traffic control, plays a crucial role in tracking vessel movements, ensuring safety and coordinating response efforts in restricted navigation zones.

The new system will feature cutting-edge technology, including five solid-state radars operating in the X-band, offering superior detection capabilities in challenging conditions such as low visibility or poor weather.

Additional components of the system will include radio direction finder technology, automatic identification system stations, a VHF radio communication network, data recording and storage (both video and audio), and weather stations, among others.

The system will also be remotely accessible, allowing operators to monitor maritime traffic from any location.

Furthermore, pilots will benefit from the installation of portable pilot units, enabling them to directly monitor navigation while on board vessels.
