Puerto Coronel will invest US$30m in two new ZPMC container gantry cranes and construction of associated infrastructure to boost its terminal’s container handling capacity.
The cranes, capable of serving super post-Panamax type ships, will allow the Chilean por to go from an average of 85 container movements per hour to about 120, which decreases the assistance time of the ships.
"The infrastructure we have today is sufficient for current and short-term demand. But we are committed to growing with a vision for the future and being prepared for the transformations in the shipping market, and the best prospects of foreign trade", said the company's CEO Javier Anwandter.
Due to be delivered in 2019, the cranes have a range of 65m, a load capacity under spreader of 65 tons and load under hook of 75 tons, besides a load height on rails of 50m.
Puerto Coronel is the main port operator in the south-central part of Chile. In 2017, the company’s terminal transferred 6.97m tons, mainly from forestry and fishing products.
For this year, it has projected to increase its transfers by 8% and reach 7.4m, ranking behind the San Antonio and Valparaiso terminals in the central zone of the country.
