The Port of Houston Authority will discuss its record year of growth at its annual State of the Port address.
During the address achievements such as the continued operation at record levels with loaded container units growing 14% in the past year will be discussed.
October has seen the Bayport Container Terminal record the highest number of gate moves – 4,300 transactions in a single day - for either of the Port Authority container terminal.
Jeff Davis, chief port operations officer for the Port of Houston Authority, told Port Strategy that he attributes the success to the commitment of staff.
He said: “Our people are the backbone of this great port and we are proud of the excellent solid customer service they strive to provide.”
“We are on pace for a record year and look to surpass 2m teus for the first time in the port authority’s history,” he added.
Maintaining the pace of the past year, the Port Commission will invest in new infrastructure and has also committed to leaving tariff rates unchanged in 2016.
Further into the future is the upcoming Feasibility Coast Share Agreement with the US Army Corps of Engineers. The agreement will see improvements made to the Houston Ship Channel and tributaries to accommodate larger ships and increased maritime commerce.
The address will be given by Janiece Longoria, chairman of the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority.
