Rotterdam commissions quay construction?

It will be capable of handling 9m tonnes of cargo annually, although this will be extended to 15m tonnes depending on demand.

The port of Rotterdam has commissioned the construction of the quay wall for the EuroMax container terminal to BAM Civiel. The design and construct-contract for the almost 2,000 metres of quay is worth ¢60m. The quay wall will have a maximum draught of 19,65 metres but in the first instance dredging is limited to 16,65 metres enabling vessels of at least 12,500 TEUs to use the terminal without restriction. The first 300 metres of the quay will be ready within 12 months and the whole length completed by end 2007.
