Special Advisor for Sustainability and QHSE, Port of Bergen
Jørn-Erik Hausmann is Special Advisor for Sustainability and QHSE at the Port of Bergen, Norway. A Master Mariner by education, he also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Engineering and is a qualified Average Adjuster (Dispasjør), combining practical maritime experience with expertise in engineering, risk and compliance. For more than 20 years, Hausmann has worked with risk management, compliance and environmental management, including the implementation of ISO 14001 management systems. Since 2022, he has specialised in biofouling management and the prevention of invasive aquatic species, with a particular focus on sustainable in-water hull cleaning. Since 2024, he has led the Port of Bergen’s role as pilot owner in the Green Shipping Programme (GSP) project on in-water hull cleaning with capture of biofouling and waste. The project has brought together ports, regulators, technology providers and the shipping industry to evaluate practical solutions that reduce environmental impacts while maintaining operational efficiency. Experiences and findings from the Bergen pilot have also informed the ongoing development of national and international policy and regulatory frameworks for biofouling management. At GreenPort Congress, Hausmann will present the Bergen pilot, sharing key lessons learned and discussing how collaboration between ports, authorities and industry can accelerate the development of safe, practical and environmentally responsible approaches to hull cleaning.
