Uruguay master plan due mid-2018

“It is a guide to activity for the next few years,” he said, noting that it will help position Uruguay in the context of both Latin America and the world in general, particularly in its role as a distribution hub for the southern half of South America, in addition to being a gateway for imports and exports.

The plan, which is being drawn up by the Administración Nacional de Puertos in association with the port community, will include new operating and commercial areas, as well as contemplating the overall expansion of the existing system to meet future needs.

The plan is being financed by the Corporacion Andina de Fomento – Banco de Desarrollo de América Latina, which contracted Spain’s Valenciaport as consultants.

The hope is that a new, overall direction can be established in which Uruguay’s ports will be able to orientate themselves.
