Ports along the US West Coast are all expecting further substantial increases in Asian imports, but as Felicity Landon reports, there is a balance to be struck with the increasing pressures of environmental and security issues
“I think increasingly you will see ports partnering with private sector companies like MTC, where each partner will take on the risks and responsibilities best suited to their strengths. This could mean, for instance, relying on the port authorities to secure environmental approvals and community support for projects, while the private sector would undertake the design, construction and operation in exchange for long-term concessions.”
