The recent cold spell in Europe forced the Bulgarian Black Sea port of Varna to close to sea traffic.

Strong winds and low temperatures made it impossible to handle cargo, which is unusual given the port's southerly location.



Although temperatures of -10°C were registered, once windchill was factored in, the ambient conditions were closer to -20°C.
