Cargotec sees increased demand for pre-owned cranes
With shorter-term business contracts of around six months now the norm, ports, terminals and distribution operators are now looking for greater flexibility in rental agreements with equipment suppliers, according to Cargotec.
Because the demands on their handling fleets are constantly changing, some customers are looking for a more economical solution, compared with buying new equipment that may not be fully utilised.
In response to this changing demand, the company has developed the “global fleet” concept, which connects buyers with the largest fleet of specialised container and material handling equipment in the world
According to Arno van Gils, director of fleet management: “Cargotec is bringing one of the widest ranges of specialised handling equipment to customers who need a more economical alternative to new purchases. In addition, we can provide those customers who need shorter term handling solutions with more flexible rental options.
“This allows them to match the contract term with that of their customers. It reduces the risk of having costly equipment sitting idle if their customer does not renew their contracts.”
