Increased Chinese imports are making operations at Portugals only deep-water port of Sines ever more viable, claims concessionaire PSA.

Port Strategy: Portugal's Sines is benefiting from swelling Chinese imports

Portugal believes it will be possible to quadruple existing traffic with China across its national ports network, with up to 30% of traffic at Sines being from that country by 2009.

PSA is currently negotiating with both China Shipping and Cosco for calls at the port.

China Shipping is reported to be seeking either exclusivity or privileged access to the proposed Terminal 2 development, which is due for completion by the summer of 2008 at a cost of ¢40m ($57m).
