Container terminal deal for Egyptian port

The MOU was signed between the Egyptian Naval Forces and Hutchison Ports to establish the terminal at the Port of Abu Qir, in the northeast of Egypt, reported Egypt Independent.

This followed a meeting between the Egyptian president, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi; commander in chief of the Naval Forces, Ahmed Khalid; group managing director of Hutchison Ports, Eric Ip; and executive director of Hutchinson Ports, Clemence Cheng. Bassam Rady, spokesperson for the presidency, stated that the MoU was signed during this meeting.

Mr Ip clarified that the company will train around 1,500 Egyptian engineers and workers to perform the various jobs in the terminal, which is expected to receive 1m containers per year.
