PSA unboXed and Amperesand have joined forces to trial cutting-edge solid-state transformer (SST) technology to support the sustainable electrification of Singapore’s port.

The pilot, which begins in mid-2025, aims to enhance electric port equipment and infrastructure by integrating Amperesand’s SST technology into PSA’s fleet of electric prime movers.
“This initiative with Amperesand aligns with our broader objective of integrating innovative technologies to future-proof our infrastructure,” said Nelson Quek, Regional CEO Southeast Asia, PSA International.
“By evaluating solid-state transformer technology at PSA Singapore, we aim to gain strategic insights that could inform our approach to sustainable electrification and operational resilience.”
High-power charging
Amperesand’s SST solution is a key component of the trial, providing high-power charging infrastructure designed for efficient, flexible energy management.
The SST’s silicon carbide (SiC) devices and proprietary high-frequency modules enable optimised power distribution, supporting the growing demand for electric port equipment.
Furthermore, the SST’s bi-directional capability allows for vehicle-to-grid applications, which could significantly reduce grid strain.
PSA’s commitment to port electrification is strengthened by this collaboration, reflecting a broader industry trend towards sustainability in logistics. If successful, this one-year Proof of Value trial could pave the way for wider adoption of SST technology at major ports worldwide.
The initiative also supports PSA’s long-term strategy for port decarbonisation and the efficient management of its electric vehicle charging facilities.
