Singapore and France have signed an Enhanced Maritime Partnership Agreement to strengthen port collaboration and accelerate port decarbonisation efforts.
The agreement, signed during President Macron’s 2024 state visit to Singapore, brings together the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and France’s Directorate General for Maritime Affairs, Fisheries and Aquaculture (DGAMPA).
It focuses the critical shift to alternative fuels for greener shipping, digitalisation, cybersecurity, innovation and training.
“This partnership marks an important step in strengthening maritime collaboration between Singapore and France. By working together, we aim to advance practical solutions that support a more sustainable and digitally connected maritime future,” said Mr Teo Eng Dih, Chief Executive of MPA.
Supply chain focus
A key highlight of the agreement is the development of a bio-methane supply chain and certification framework to ensure compliance with global sustainability standards.
Under this partnership, the first-ever bio-methane bunkering trial in Singapore will be conducted with shipping giant CMA CGM, marking a milestone for alternative fuels in Asia.
On the digital front, MPA will team up with HAROPA PORT and the Port of Marseille-Fos to trial port call optimisation and automate port clearance processes.
These initiatives aim to enhance ship-to-shore data exchange, reduce manual paperwork, and improve operational efficiency.
The partnership also encourages maritime innovation and entrepreneurship, connecting companies and startups from both countries through platforms like PIER71TM Smart Port Challenge, ZEBOX and Landing Pad.
