GreenPort Congress is a meeting place for the port community to discuss and learn the latest in sustainable environmental practice. It offers ways to reduce their carbon foot print and be more sensitive to environmental considerations, both of which are vital to future success.	The Green Ports & Shipping Congress will identify and prioritise the areas that ports-based organisations and shipping companies need to collaborate on to reduce emissions.	Coastlink is a neutral pan-European network dedicated to the promotion of short sea and feeder shipping, and the intermodal transport networks through the ports that support the sector. It is a place for industry professionals to meet and discuss future innovation, economic and environmental considerations – and develop partnerships that will help build a sustainable future.

GreenPort Congress 2025 promises to be its most impactful yet, spotlighting port decarbonisation, sustainability and global best practice in port environmental management.

Marking its 20th anniversary, this year’s event will be hosted in Valletta, Malta from 15 to 17 October and will see the Congress joining forces with Transport Malta and EOPSA to deliver a dynamic fusion of GreenPort Congress and DTF: Shore to Ship.

“This is more than a conference, it’s a catalyst for change,” said Dr Christopher Wooldridge, science coordinator at EcoPorts.

“We’re building a platform for port professionals to exchange practical insights that lead to measurable environmental progress.”

Green pioneers

Leading the 2025 event are three pioneering figures: Dr Christopher Wooldridge, Dr Mark van der Veen and Dr Martí Puig Duran.

Chris Wooldridge is science coordinator, EcoPorts (European Sea Ports Organization) and senior trainer, ECO Sustainable Logistic Chain Foundation.

A pioneer in port environmental management, Chris has been shaping global best practices since 1982. His expertise underpins the EcoPorts tools used in ports across Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Mark van der Veen is director, Graduate School of Business, University of Amsterdam and is a champion of sustainable strategy. Mark brings a business lens to environmental challenges, with research focused on green product innovation and port-sector transformation.

Martí Puig Duran is a chemical engineer & lecturer at Polytechnic University of Catalonia and he is also the scientific coordinator of EcoPorts, Martí is a driving force behind the ESPO Environmental Report and a respected researcher in port sustainability performance.

Together, they’ll guide discussions at the event on the latest innovations driving greener, smarter port operations worldwide.

As sustainability climbs higher on the maritime agenda, GreenPort Congress 2025 will also be exploring key themes including emissions reduction, ESG integration and digital environmental tools, offering ports a roadmap to long-term success.
