The redevelopment of Marina Port Valencia is progressing with new measures designed to strengthen the marina’s integration with the marine environment.
Covering both landside areas and waterside infrastructure, the project is introducing environmentally focused construction techniques aimed at improving long-term sustainability.

A key milestone has been the installation of new pontoon systems using eco-friendly mooring blocks, or eco-moorings. Constructed by CHM using technology developed by ECOncrete, the blocks are designed to minimise environmental impact while encouraging the colonisation of marine species.
Unlike conventional concrete mooring blocks, the eco-moorings feature specially engineered surface textures that promote the settlement of algae, sponges, anemones and small invertebrates. As these biological communities develop, they enhance local biodiversity and create a natural protective layer that helps reduce marine degradation of the concrete, extending the infrastructure’s service life.
The growth of calcifying organisms on the structures can also contribute to carbon sequestration while helping to improve water quality throughout the marina.
The installation reflects a wider trend in coastal infrastructure development that combines operational performance and durability with environmental responsibility. By incorporating eco-friendly mooring systems during construction, Marina Port Valencia is reducing its environmental footprint while strengthening the relationship between marina operations and surrounding marine ecosystems.
