In Mexico, the Sonora state government is promoting the Port of Guaymas as a complementary port to that of Long Beach, in California.
The Sonoran state governor, Claudia Pavlovich, recently met with representatives of Long Beach port authorities to promote the idea of Guaymas being an alternative terminal outlet.
Given good land and aviation links, the governor believes that Guaymas definitely could play a complementary role for those goods that usually exist via the Californian port.
The various diplomats present at the meeting between Sonora and the US expressed an interest in taking the idea forward and have put forward a schedule to take the project to the next level. This will involve meetings with those companies requiring maritime transport and who would be prepared to route consignments via Guaymas.
A delegation from Long Beach is now to make a visit to Guaymas.
