In recent weeks, TTS Liftec Oy has secured a substantial contract from UPM-Kymmene Seaways, one of the world’ s leading forest products groups, for the supply of 200 cassettes that will be used to transport products such as paper and timber on routes between Finland and Santander and Ferrol in Spain.
The TTS Liftec cassette system is a unique large unit handling system having up to 80-tonne load capacity, comparing favourably with the typical 60-tonne capacity.
The use of cassettes and translifters will replace the conventional use of tractors and trailer sets common in most Spanish terminal operations, and is believed to be the first time that this equipment has been deployed in a Spanish port.
“The extra capacity offered by our system brings many advantages for shipowners including high operational efficiency,shorter turnaround time and a better use of space in the ship when compared with other large unit systems,” claims Tatu Miikkulainen, managing director, TTS Liftec Oy. “Stevedores also see many benefits including efficient and fast sto-ro (stowable ro-ro) and ro-ro operation because of enhanced manoeuvrability and reduced maintenance.”
