Kalmar secures Brazilian Order
Kalmar has landed an order from Libra Terminais of Brazil for 13 ContChamp DRF reachstackers for Santos and Rio de Janeiro. The machines will have a lifting capacity of 45 tons and can stack containers 6 high.
Richard de Braak, a project manager from Dutch project secondment and interim management company, Yacht, working with European Container Terminals (ECT), is currently looking at ways to optimise the layout of container stacking in Rotterdam because the safe and speedy handling of increasingly heavier containers are becoming major issues. Yacht has been hired to manage a number of projects including buying new reachstacker capacity, which means replacing eight old machines.
Delivery of the first batch of five ContChamps will be to Libra’s Terminal 37 and Terminal 35 at Santos in August, while the remaining eight will be delivered in October and November, to replace other brand rented reachstackers.
Kalmar says its Generation F ContChamp is the market leader in reachstacker technology and, along with Kalmar’s reliable workhorse, the ContMaster, is proving increasingly popular in Latin America. Kalmar has completed recent deliveries of the hi-spec ContChamp DRF to Mexico and Venezuela.
