LR to verify emissions management programme

With increasingly strict regulations, the shipping industry is under more pressure to manage its emissions. Carbon Positive has developed the CPPS sustainability programme – which is split into three phases – to help its members effectively measure, reduce and offset its carbon foot print.

Under the agreement, Lloyd’s Register will verify a limited level of assurance of data and calculations reported during the first two phases of the programme – determining the baseline and creating a carbon management strategy and developing Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) and monitoring the effectiveness of energy efficiency improvement plans.

Mitigating environmental impact is increasingly being included into the operations of existing ships to help reduce carbon footprint and decrease the risk of non-compliance with possible future environmental legislation. Independent verification will demonstrate a member company’s commitment to transparency in operations and performance, providing stakeholders and senior management with confidence in the accuracy of data. It also helps to determine opportunities for improvements, creating costs benefits and commercial advantage.
