The Under Secretary of Port and Inland Waterways of Argentina’s Ministry of Transport has stressed the need to consolidate ports in the country to both boost tourism and regional economies.
Jorge Metz, who was addressing the Interamerican Ports Commission, noted that vital investment is being made in infrastructure and planned works. In particular, he emphasised work that has recently been completed in the Port of Comodoro Rivadavia, the new Storni and Piedra Buena quay upgrades in Puerto Madryn, and projects that are under way in Ushuaia and Puerto Quequén, as well as an entirely new state-financed port of Itá Ibaté, in the province of Corrientes.
At the meeting of the Ports Commission discussions also took place on ways to actively support logistics operations, embrace innovation and boost competitiveness.
Emphasis was additionally placed on achieving sustainable port management, especially in respect of environmental protection.
