MoU to study Carey Island projects
MMC Port Holdings (MMC), Sime Darby Property Berhad and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to study the feasibility of developing an integrated maritime city on Carey Island, Malaysia.
The maritime city is to support the proposed development of a new port on a greenfield site on Carey Island, located 50 kilometres southwest of Kuala Lumpur.
At the same time, MMC and APSEZ has signed a separate MoU to explore the feasibility of the Carey Island Port Project as an extension of Port Klang.
Karan Adani, chief executive of APSEZ, said: “Malaysia is very strategic to APSEZ global strategy and with straits of Malacca being a global shipping route it helps us to drive our global transhipment strategy further.”
With Vizhinjam port on one side and Carey Island port on the other, Mr Adani added that APSEZ will be able to provide transhipment solutions to global shipping lines.
