Moderated by Mark van der Veen, Director of the Graduate School of Business, University of Amsterdam this session will cover innovation, energy transition and new roles for the port beyond 2050. Covering both global and regional challenges, this panel will also look at the ambition of Europe operating in a global context.

Hamels will be sharing insight into the PIONEERS project (Portable Innovation Open Network for Efficiency and Emissions Reduction Solutions) and their plans to shape the Green Port of the Future.

PIONEERS brings together four ports with different characteristics, but shared commitments towards Green Deal goals and Blue Growth socio-economic aims. Developed to address the challenge for European ports to reduce GHG emissions while remaining competitive, Ports of Antwerp, Barcelona, Venlo and Constanta will implement green port innovation demonstations across four main pillars: clean energy production and supply; sustainable port design; modal shift and flows optimization, and digital transformation.

PIONEERS is coordinated by Port of Antwerp-Bruges and a consortium of 45 partners.

Hamels has been at Port of Antwerp-Bruges since 2017 in a variety of roles including incident management officer and internal auditor.
