Frog Environmental’s Richard Haine among the experienced contributors
October’s GreenPort Congress will deliver a wealth of expert insight on water management, not least from Richard Haine, Managing Director and co-founder of water quality specialists Frog Environmental.
The award-winning UK-based company works across Europe and beyond with contractors, regulators and consultants to mitigate environmental impact across a range of industries, including marine, coastal and construction.
Haine will be speaking on the opening day of GreenPort Congress 2026 at Portsmouth International Port in the Pollution, sediment, and comprehensive risk management session, when he will detail Frog Environmental’s cost effective water treatment and silt control products, notably Bubble Tubing.
This now widely appreciated and robust technology is becoming increasingly effective in providing environmental and infrastructure protection, including reducing underwater noise pollution to protect fish and other wildlife, avoiding silt pollution and preventing debris build-up.
Talking to GreenPort magazine Haine said: “Bubble curtains are very versatile and offer wide application which extends to ports and terminals.
“Whilst temporary applications include mitigating the harmful environmental impact of construction work or dredging operations, the permanent applications for ports and terminals are perhaps even more interesting.”
He added that these included the use of the curtains as bubble barriers to contain the impact of serious oil spills, to protect key port assets including lock gates, and abstractions from debris and deposition of silt. Bubble curtains can also be used to control litter and transfer it into collection areas. The system has been used at the South Shields dockyard redevelopment, and during wharf upgrades at Centreport in Wellington, New Zealand.
Those attending the session at the essential annual port community gathering from October 7 to 9, will also benefit from the expertise of Jørn-Erik Hausmann, who leads the Port of Bergen’s pilot project the Green Shipping Programme (GSP) on in-water hull cleaning with capture of biofouling and waste, and Małgorzata Żochowska, Business Manager at Race for the Baltic, on their Dry Bulk project aimed at cleaner handling of dry bulk cargoes.
