Day one of GreenPort Congress & Cruise 2022 will feature a session discussing Fuel & energy provision for shipping & cruising. Leading professionals from a range of association, ports and non-government organisations will present during the morning of the first day of conference proceedings.

Malte Siegert, Head Environmental Policy, NABU will present an overview of the challenges and chances of ’green’ fuels. Considering the need to fulfil the necessary substantial emission decrease to fulfil the Paris goals we will take a look into the future as to which scenario might be the most probable one and which energy providers can play a significant role in sustainable shipping.

Arne Strybos, Program Manager Fuel Transition, Port of Antwerp-Bruges will be discussing Planning a multi fuel future. The Port of Antwerp-Bruges is preparing itself for the energy transition of its platform. The transition from oil-based fuels to renewable alternatives presents new challenges but also offers new opportunities. This session will profile the initiatives underway at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges to deliver on decarbonisation and new energy ambitions and targets – in the port environment and in support of different types of transport modes.

Bogdan Oldakowski, Secretary General, Baltic Ports Organization will provide an educational presentation on the project Baltic ports for climate. The aim of the initiative is to reduce emission of GHG from port and shipping activities in the Baltic Sea Region. The project is a positive response to climate challenges as well as to European Grean Deal and Fit for 55 proposal. A number of Baltic ports have already declared the reduction goals of GHG emission and invested in climate friendly technologies such as OPS.

Jan Egbertsen, Manager Innovation, Port of Amsterdam will round off this session presenting on Clean shipping and the strategic role of port’ in which he will showcase their new vessel which will sail on NaBH4, a salt named sodium borohydride.
