The GreenPort Congress 2025 will bring together global port leaders, policymakers, and sustainability experts for two dynamic days of collaboration, innovation, and practical solutions.
With a focus on decarbonisation, digitalisation, and environmental performance, this year’s programme reflects the growing urgency—and opportunity—for ports to lead the way in building a greener maritime future.
Held over two days, the event combines keynote presentations, panel discussions, and hands-on workshops, designed to inspire action across the entire port community.
Day 1: Resilience, Infrastructure and Innovation
The Congress opens with a welcome from conference chairs Chris Wooldridge and Mark van der Veen. The morning sessions explore how ports can build sustainable communities and adapt to evolving EU strategies.
- Keynote Session: Strategy for Resilience and Decarbonisation
Speakers Isabelle Ryckbost (General Secretary, ESPO) and Lamia Kerdjoudj (General Secretary, FEPORT) examine how port authorities and terminals can navigate growing environmental and regulatory pressures amid the development of the EU Ports Strategy.
- Collaboration in the Port Community
A session focused on the importance of partnerships between terminal operators and shipowners, followed by audience Q&A.The late morning and early afternoon turn to innovative infrastructure projects, including
- The sH2unter@ports Project – showcasing hydrogen-powered shunting operations in Hamburg and Bremerhaven.
- The BlueBARGE Project – a floating energy solution designed to reduce vessel emissions at berth.
- Additional technical sessions to be confirmed.
The afternoon workshop, Renewables, Reclamation & Responsible Growth, explores sustainable development through:
- Nature-based solutions for resilient port planning
- Sustainable dredging practices
- Future planning for deep water terminals
Day 1 concludes with a forward-looking session on the Ports of the Future, addressing how ports can meet global climate goals beyond 2050 without compromising competitiveness. Confirmed speakers include:
- Edvard Molitor (Head of International Public Affairs and Sustainability, Port of Gothenburg & Chair, IAPH Climate and Energy Committee)
- Ayushi Srivastava (Associate Fellow, National Centre of Excellence in Green Ports and Shipping)
- Tim Verhoeven (Senior Policy Advisor – Sustainable Development, ESPO)
The day wraps up with a conference summary and networking dinner at 19:00.
Day 2: Environmental Leadership and the Digital Transition
Day 2 begins with fresh insights into environmental performance across European ports:
- ESPO Environmental Report – presented by Tim Verhoeven, ESPO
- EcoSLC Environmental Report – from Marti Puig Duran, Polytechnic University of Catalonia
These updates offer valuable benchmarking data and trends on emissions, waste, and port sustainability measures.
The mid-morning session, Managing Cyber Risk in Automating Processes, takes a deep dive into cybersecurity challenges in digitalised port systems. Moderated by Nicolette van der Jagt (Director General, CLECAT), it features insights from:
- Lamia Kerdjoudj (FEPORT)
After lunch, the conference will handover to DTF 2025 2025 (Decarbonising the Future – Shore to Ship Conference) where we will dive deeper into topics of OPS & Offshore Solutions, wind Energy, Hydrogen and the Future of Marine Energy and Public-Private Partnerships, Funding Models, Regulatory Evolution.
