The Welcome Address at this year’s Congress event  on 15 - 17 October will be delivered by two distinguished leaders from Malta’s transport and infrastructure sector: Hon. Dr Chris Bonett, Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, and Mr Kurt Farrugia, CEO of Transport Malta.

Hon. Dr Chris Bonett – Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works

Dr Chris Bonett was elected to Parliament in 2022 and now serves as Malta’s Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works. A lawyer by profession, he holds a Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Malta and a Master of Law in Sports Law from De Montfort University, Leicester.

Before entering national politics, Dr Bonett held senior roles in sports governance, including Vice President of the Malta Football Association and UEFA Integrity Officer. He also served as Mayor of Gżira (2007–2012), where he oversaw a series of community and infrastructure projects that left a lasting mark on the locality.

Kurt Farrugia – CEO, Transport Malta

Kurt Farrugia was appointed CEO of Transport Malta in 2024. He previously led Malta Enterprise, where he oversaw the government’s €800 million economic response to Covid-19, expanded the nation’s start-up ecosystem, and helped secure major foreign investment in innovative sectors such as semiconductors and R&D.

Earlier in his career, Mr Farrugia served as Head of Government Communication and spokesperson for the Prime Minister, playing a central role in Malta’s hosting of high-profile international summits, including the Valletta Summit on Migration and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in 2015. He holds degrees in Communications and Entrepreneurship from the University of Malta.
