Hiab has introduced a new autonomous load handling capability for MULTILIFT demountables, featuring the L2 Driver Support assistance technology.

The company, part of Cargotec, hails the development as a significant advancement in automated operations, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing safety and efficiency while addressing the growing shortage of experienced drivers in the transport sector.

The L2 Driver Support feature automatically reverses the truck into position, aligning it with the front of the container for pickup

“At Hiab, we are focused on providing innovative solutions that help our customers overcome the daily challenges of modern logistics,” said Hannu Hyttinen, director of R&D at Hiab.

“With our new autonomous capabilities, we’re bringing a level of support that will enhance safety and ease of operation, particularly in industries facing driver shortages and high demand for efficient deliveries.”

The L2 Driver Support technology simplifies the tasks of loading and unloading containers, which traditionally require significant skill and precision.

The technology automates one of the most critical aspects of load handling – reversing the vehicle into the optimal position for loading or unloading.

Equipped with robust safety protocols and adhering to international standards like ISO 26262, the L2 Driver Support ensures compliance with the EU’s General Safety Regulation, prioritising safety in road operations.

Hiab has a history of pioneering automation solutions, including the launch of HiVision for MULTILIFT hooklifts in 2019.
