India and Iran have agreed a 10-year deal over the development and management of the Port of Chabahar. Located on Iran’s south-eastern coast along the Gulf of Oman, the port will be developed by India to support shipment of goods to Iran, Afghanistan, and Central Asian nations, bypassing the key competing Pakistan ports of Karachi and Gwadar. Continuing US sanctions on Iran have reportedly slowed the port’s development to-date.
