El Salvador''s National Port Authority is looking into three possible methods of awarding concessions at the ports of La Unión and Acajutla.
One possibility is that all activities at each port be bundled together as a single concession, with La Unión concentrating on general cargo and Acatjula on containers.
A second option would see three concessions awarded, one for each of the main traffic segments. The third possibility is that a single concession would be granted covering all operations at both ports.
A decision will be made with the Japan Bank for International Corporation, provider of a $94.6m loan for the initial expansion of La Unión.
