RAM pays tribute to technical manager

Louis was an integral part of the RAM service team for more than 10 years.

“His dedication, expertise and unwavering commitment to customers and the industry left an indelible mark on all those who worked with him,” said the company in a statement.

Louis dedicated 44 years of his life to the industry, beginning his career as an apprentice electrician in Durban before spending 28 years with Transnet. After qualifying, he gained extensive experience across various departments before securing a role as a Technician at the Durban Container Terminal.

Whilst at RAM, Louis served as a team leader and supervisor, overseeing a team of technicians responsible for maintenance and standby repairs on container cranes.

His expertise and dedication allowed him to develop a deep understanding of container handling equipment, making him a respected figure in the industry.

One of his proudest achievements was returning to the Durban terminal as a supplier and reconnecting with many of the team members he had mentored as young tradesmen.

During his time with RAM, he travelled extensively, often to challenging and remote African ports. His ability to get the job done in demanding conditions with limited resources was a hallmark of his career.

“To his colleagues and customers, Lou was more than just a team member – he was a mentor, problem solver and friend,” concluded the statement.
