AAPA pleads for continued investment

The American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) has sent a letter to the Joint Selection Committee on Deficit Reduction asking it to take into account the benefits derived from port activities prior to any cutting of financial resources to the ports.

In the letter, the AAPA has pointed out that its members help facilitate trade and commerce, create jobs, help secure national borders, support the military and act as guardians of the coastal environment.

Furthermore, the letter continues, ports are essential for economic prosperity and federal funding for them generates dividends for the nation.
