All for one and one for all
The worlds most powerful self-propelled ocean-going cutter suction dredger was christened in Dunkirk recently.
The mighty 38.000 HP “D’ARTAGNAN” is named after the famous character in The Three Musketeers. Two auxiliary vessels, “ARAMIS” and “BUCKINGHAM” were also christened at the same ceremony. The three vessels will sail under French colours and are owned and operated by Societe de Dragage International (SDI), the French subsidiary of Belgian Dredging, Environmental and Marine Engineering (DEME) Group.
Development and construction of the three dredgers represent an investment of ?106m.
D’ARTAGNAN was built by IHC in the Netherlands.
On the open market there are only eight self-propelled and sea-going CSD’s in the world able to operate in open waters and estuaries.
The vessel will start work at Bayonne shortly prior to assignments in Southern Europe and the Middle East.
