City trucks get green boost
A clean air strategy in the ports of New York and New Jersey is being helped by an influx of environmental grants, worth over $30m, that will help to replace pre-1994 trucks serving the port.
Although these make up just 16% of those calling at the ports, they are responsible for 33% of the fine particulates in the air.
The Port Authority also received a grant to support the installation of a shore power system at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal – the first on the east coast.
